Flexible IP Telephony Solution to Integrate Users Across
                       Global Organization

OTTAWA, Oct. 17, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mitel(R) (Nasdaq:MITL), a
leading provider of unified communications and collaboration (UCC)
software solutions, today announced that, through a competitive
process, it has been awarded a contract by PWGSC on behalf of Foreign
Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT). Central to the deployment is
Mitel's Freedom architecture, an advanced IP telephony solution based
on a single software stream, giving DFAIT the flexibility to connect
its users around the world and add new capabilities as part of its
future communications needs.

The contract covers a rollout of a new communications infrastructure to
support DFAIT's international users in its Canadian missions,
consulates and embassies around the world. Central to Mitel's bid was
its flexibility of deployment options addressing the range of needs
across these multiple locations and support of virtualization. Mitel
currently offers the industry's only UC solution that supports a truly
virtualized environment.

To effectively address the needs of DFAIT, the Mitel solution
incorporates the following elements:

--  Mitel Communications Director software, which can be deployed at
multiple locations, integrated and managed as one system. This single
stream of software can be deployed on multiple hardware platforms across
the organization depending on DFAIT's requirements. The solution offers
great flexibility, and can be deployed in virtualized data centers, on
industry standard servers, or on Mitel hardware with all services and
legacy connections integrated, such as might be needed for foreign
     embassies;
--  Mitel Communications Director extending Dynamic Extension and hotdesking
capabilities to all users to ensure calls are delivered, regardless of
the user's location. Users can select up to eight devices in their
personal ring group, regardless of type, so calls to a business number
can ring on a mobile phone, home phone, remote office, or on any other
     device;
--  Mitel NuPoint Messenger IP provides a cost-effective, scalable, and
reliable way to relay, store, and retrieve messages - using a phone, fax
     machine, pager or PC.

"Mitel's Freedom architecture provides a flexible IP telephony
infrastructure and seamless communications across all locations, as is
required for an organization of this size and scope," said Stephen
Beamish, Mitel's vice president of corporate marketing and strategic
alliances. "By choosing Mitel, this is now possible. But, perhaps more
importantly, DFAIT also has the capability to add new UC functionality
for its users and scale to the needs of the organization."
