Private Equity Investors Express Support for Cloud Communications Alliance

Newly Created Alliance Brings Voice Communications to the ‘Cloud,’ Driving Innovation, Investment and Market Growth

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Several significant private equity investors today acknowledged support for the Cloud Communications Alliance™, a consortium of eight leaders in hosted-IP voice and data communications that will drive development and adoption of the first nationwide high-definition enterprise voice and data network in the IP “cloud.” The Alliance was launched today at the Cloud Computing Expo being held this week in New York City (see the main announcement here).

“The same way the Internet and ubiquitous broadband have created a boom in cloud computing, we are now seeing changes in the way enterprises communicate via cloud communications,” said Dennis Weibling, managing director of telecommunications firm Rally Capital, LLC. “Cloud communications is currently being served by many geographically dispersed companies, so the banding together of top providers into the Cloud Communications Alliance will create a nationwide network that will increase the availability of voice solutions in the cloud, driving innovation in that space. Providing new and creative voice solutions to customers, in turn, will drive investment and growth.”

Founding members of the Cloud Communications Alliance (CCA) include Alteva, Broadcore, Callis Communications, Consolidated Technologies Inc., IPFone, SimpleSignal, Stage 2 Networks and Telesphere. Together, the companies represent more than $100 million in combined annual revenue and collectively serve more than 110,000 business customers in the United States.

Doug Webster, an expert in telecommunications and Internet infrastructure investment and managing director of Signal Hill Capital, said, “Similar to computing and storage, the demand for a cloud communications-type service offering is growing significantly. The fact that these companies are working together and finding ways to increase their national footprint and speed development of technology and OSS platforms to bring critical mass to the sector will make investment more attractive and customer adoption more likely.”

Cloud Communications Alliance members are leaders in deploying and scaling VoIP, hosted PBX and unified communications solutions. Together, their objective is to promote awareness of the Cloud Communications standard and drive its development through the pursuit of new technical standards, capabilities and applications. The Alliance will also jointly deliver services directly to customers, taking advantage of the nationwide coverage provided by its established, regionally owned and operated service provider membership.
