Digium, creator of the open-source Asterisk VoIP platform, has acquired Switchvox, one of its vendors. Switchvox of San Diego, Calif., targets the small- and medium-sized business market with a scalable IP-PBX built on the Digium platform.
Digium is based in Huntsville, Ala., and was a Fierce 15 [1] winner last year for coming up with Asterisk, which in turn spawned further VoIP developments, like the Switchvox interface.
Digium may well be executing a unification plan to lend marketing power to Asterisk, particularly as VoIP adoption among SMBs heats up.
