The unified communications market crossed the half-billion revenue mark in 2008, according to the results of a biannual report by Infonetics. The report, entitled "Unified Communications and IP Contact Center Market Share and Forcast," found that unified messaging and communicator software clients accounted for $523.4 million in revenue in 2008, a 16 percent sequential increase.
A total of 1.4 million communicatior clients shipped in 2008, for a 47 percent year-over-year increase. Cisco accounted for a large portion of the growth, as the vendor jumped from 5th to 1st in market share in this area, according to the report. Siemens and Avaya followed Cisco in terms of communicator client revenue, which the report predicted will nearly double in 2009.
The report also found 54 percent growth in the global IP contact center market, as the segment accounted for $956 million in 2008. Avaya leads this segment, followed by Alca-Lu and Cisco.
