All the QoS monitoring in the world won't make a difference if your handset's a tin can. Two companies had VON announcements. Polycom rolled out its HD Voice technology, which it's first putting in its SoundPoint IP 650 SIP phone. And GIPS [1], whose codecs are all over the VoIP world, announced version 2 of its iSAC codec. The previous version was aimed at softphones; this new version is optimized for deployment on network and handset hardware.
