iBasis - Top 10 VoIP Leaders
Website: www.ibasis.com
What makes it a fierce leader: The future of pure play retail VoIP may
be questionable, but at the wholesale end of the market another Massachusetts
firm, iBasis has emerged as one of the global voice giants. Dutch incumbent KPN
took a 51 percent stake in iBasis in the fall and combined its wholesale
business with iBasis' already strong IP voice carriage business. The combined
entity emerged as the number two carrier of international traffic in the world,
second to Verizon and eclipsing even AT&T.
What to look for: The plan is to convert KPN's TDM traffic to IP and
generate significant savings. This is also the model iBasis is offering to any
service provider looking to make the move from TDM to IP --rather than go
through the pain of a new infrastructure, outsource the business to a
wholesaler like IBasis. Similarly as click to talk functionality continues to be
rolled out across the internet, iBasis is very well positioned to manage the
international traffic for the multitude of providers expected to blossom as
voice apps becomes embedded everywhere.
