2011 to be even better than 2010 for UC
Prediction? I think not. According to Channel Partners and a number of industry leaders and analysts they spoke with, 2011 will see unified communications (UC) being adopted by companies like voicemail and email in the past--a no-brainer. UC was once a novel addition, but is now a "must-have" technology.
According to Jay Lassman, research director of Communications Applications at Gartner, about 75 percent of specifications drawn up by companies looking to upgrade their communications systems have some form of UC on their lists. Instant messaging and presence are widespread while even video is becoming more accepted as businesses see the value.
Two things have been driving the push for UC lately: cost-savings and efficiency. The economy has hurt some markets, but it has spurred companies to pursue UC as a cost-saving measure using SIP for cheaper voice and Video to cut down on travel. Mobility has added a more fun reason to add UC, but it also comes with the efficiency bonus of always being able to reach the people you need to.
