ADT gets comfortable with cableco VoIP

Tools

Alarm companies like reliability so if the phone service that carries the alarm signal isn't reliable, it's a big problem. That's why it's a big vote of confidence that Brinks and ADT are saying that they'll work with cableco VoIP. ADT said this week that it's tested the network of customers including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Charter, Cox, and Bright House, which covers pretty much all the big players. ADT's concern was what's always been seen as an Achilles Heel for VoIP: when the power goes down, so does the phone service. But with the cablecos moving toward facility managed networks with robust disaster plans, ADT is willing to accept that their VoIP offerings--though not all VoIP services--are as reliable as the POTS network.
