Alcatel-Lucent launches its own line of SBCs

Tools

According to Light Reading, Alcatel-Lucent is launching its first standalone session border controller (SBC). The company reportedly has offered SBC features built in to its other products, but this marks the first time those features will be available as their own hardware.

The 5060 IBC-4 will launch in March in response to growing demand from Alcatel-Lucent's customers looking for stand-alone SBCs to distribute to the edge of their networks. The device will support 200,000 subscribers and 50,000 SIP sessions. Light Reading noted in their article that the device will be a challenge to SBC market leader Acme Packet, since Alcatel-Lucent has a significant foothold in the VoIP/IMS market as well.
