Is Amazon's cloud service its next $1B business?

Internet retailer Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reports its earnings this week, and analysts will be keeping a sharp eye on the results to try to discern just how big AWS--its growing cloud services unit--has become, and how much potential it has. Pundits are saying the service, which launched in 2006 and now counts NASA and NASDAQ among its customers, has the potential to be the company's next $1 billion business. "I'm amazed by how fast it's growing and it's clearly accelerating," said Bernard Golden, chief executive of cloud consulting firm HyperStratus. "Companies are building whole businesses around AWS."
