Analysts bleak on pure-play VoIP

Is there a future for pure-play VoIP providers? Analysts have been mulling the question, and seem to be coming down on the side of "No." Besides the patent problems that are hamstringing Vonage and helping pull down the rest of the industry, cablecos have deeper pockets and access to more marketing resources, and traditional telcos are resolutely refusing to die a quick death. To succeed, analysts say, pure-plays need to add value to the call. Dial tone alone won't make it in a converged world.
