Analyzing the Avaya deal

Monday morning quarterbacks are taking a closer look at Avaya's $8.2 billion merger with private equity firms Silver Lake and TPG Capital. While we now know who the buyer is, even though there's a chance that could change before the deal is official, the deal only summons more questions to observers' minds. If the merger goes through, is a shake-up in the works? Could it trigger other M&A activity? Will Nortel, Cisco and others find it increasingly challenging to compete with Avaya? Will Avaya tinker with its sales channel?
