API drama aside, SkypeKit is available for Window and Mac
A few weeks ago, Skype teased us with a Skype SDK release for Linux. Suddenly programmers could build programs that would use Skype calling functionality on devices running Linux. Now, the company has released its promised SkypeKit for Mac OSX and Windows.
The software development kit allows programmers and electronics manufacturers to create software applications that can make Skype calls without a seperately downloaded Skype application. Skype calling could be embedded in any type of program/device designers can come up with. The SDK allows developers to embed Skype's chat, voice calling and video into their applications running OSX, Windows or Linux.
Developers will have access to a number of Skype APIs and will be able to use the 'Plugged into Skype' descriptor to market their applications. The Skype Shop will also one day feature 'plugged into Skype applications' just like other online app stores. It looks like we might see Skype calling popping up in all sorts of Internet connected devices and software applications very soon.
