Avaya cementing FMC market leadership
Avaya is touting the receipt of Frost & Sullivan's 2009 Global Market Leadership Award for world enterprise FMC, an award due in part to its 43 percent global market share in the category. According to Frost & Sullivan research, Avaya's share of this market is 16 percentage points greater than that of the second-leading vendor.
Alaa Sayaad, unified communications analyst for Frost & Sullivan, said Avaya has continually innovated in enterprise communications and has led the way with multiple mobility options for the enterprise. According to the release, Frost & Sullivan sees enterprise mobility and FMC as the most compelling area of unified communications.
Yankee Group analyst Zeus Kerravala, in an interview for a separate story, agreed on the potential of mobility in unified communications.
"I'm a big believer in UC mobility," Kerravla said. "Mobile UC provides more bang for your buck and value when it allows for seamless movement across communication mediums."
Two separate reports by In-Stat and ABI Research see explosive growth in the FMC segment going forward, and if Avaya maintains its market leadership, it could mean serious revenue gains for the company. But the reports also both cautioned that significant education about and enterprise adoption of FMC would need to occur for these forecasts to hold true.
