BT's Onevoice gets Ribbit up and running
BT bought Ribbit for $105M two years ago, but it has taken them some time to get start-up's GoogleVoice-style offering running with its new owner's service. Previously only open to private beta-testers, BT plans to offer testing for corporate customers and then launch the real deal by year's end.
The Internet call management software allows users to have one phone number for incoming and outgoing calls, integrates with existing VoIP deployments, routes calls over VoIP connections for out-of-office workers and even offers mobile phone support using call forwarding. Ribbit also has an API so that companies can design their own software around it.
The Register makes an interesting point when reporting on the news: BT/Ribbit will be offering everything GoogleVoice does, but will be backed by a major telecomunications company that wont mine your data. The only catch? It's not free.
