Canadian VoIPer offers freebie

Cybersurf is giving away VoIP service in Canada. The provider, based in Calgary, Alberta, said it's offering its CIA Home Phone Basic service for free to poach wireline customers. (CIA for "Cybersurf Internet Access," not The Firm that one would not necessary want associated with their phone service.)

Cybersurf didn't say how long it would offer free VoIP, but it does talk about the need for a high-speed Internet connection, which the company also happens to provide. Long distance charges also apply. The VoIP is free; it's just using it that costs money …
