Carriers agree to route calls to iNum numbers

Tools

Voxbone has found another win with their iNum offering. Once only used by VoIP providers, the service that allows for inexpensive international long distance calling is now getting support from some incumbent carriers.

Verizon, Belgacom and BT have begun routing calls to its geographically-independent iNum numbers. They will now route calls from their systems to these global country code numbers allowing iNum users to get calls from certain regular PSTN using contacts. When Voxbone recieves calls to iNum numbers it sends them over its global IP network to the appropriate service provider for termination thereby connecting incoming calls from PSTN callers, as well as calls between different VoIP and IM providers.

The incumbent carriers are not currently supplying iNum numbers to their customers, they are only routing calls to them. More carriers are expected to jump on board soon, according to Voxbone.
