CES light on big VoIP

Tools

If you think that you're hearing a lot about the SMB and residential VoIP markets these days, blame it on CES. The 2007 Consumer Electronics Show kicks off Monday. The show pretty much takes over Las Vegas; if it's electronic and it's targeted at consumers--a very broad target these days--you can pretty much be sure it'll be at the show. Expect a ton of announcements about this new VoIP phone or that new SMB hosted solution or some other WiFi solution. The vast majority of them will sink in the market without a trace. What you won't see are trunking agreements or anything having to do with session border controllers. We'll keep an eye out for the highlights and report them as we hear about them. But most of what happens in Vegas next week will have nothing to do with enterprise VoIP and hardly anything to do with carrier VoIP. Truly, CES is not carrying the droids you're looking for.
