Cisco announces new IP comm tools and more on Quad
Tomorrow Cisco is going to demo a bunch of their new offerings in Boston at the Enterprise 2.0 show. Among the new announcements are the new Quad business social networking solution, a prosumer video solution that works with the FlipCam, and a new addition to the WebEx IM.
Quad, as we have detailed in the past, is an enterprise collaboration system--sort of a Facebook for the business--that integrates voice, video and social networking into one workspace. The company plans to demo Mobile Quad applications for the Apple iPad and iPhone. Beginning in Cisco's first quarter of fiscal year 2011, the Quad system will be available on a limited basis in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Australia/New Zealand.
The latest addition to WebEx comes in the form of an instant messaging capability from the browser. The system is now accessible on any computer with any operating system without the need to download a client.
Cisco's Flipcam offering may seem consumery, but I've seen plenty of businesses use them as a simple way to start getting into video. With this latest offering, any other skeptical businesses might have a hard time putting up an argument. The Cisco Prosumer Video solution offers a private and secure end-to-end solution for video capture and management using an online video workspace called FocalPoint which provides cloud-based management, sharing and editing capabilities. Cisco is also offering a new specifically targeted business-class four-hour Flip MinoPRO camcorder.
