Cisco Cius tablet to go live with Verizon 4G this Spring
Over the summer business tablets were all the rage and among them, Cisco revealed its Cius tablet with a promise of mobile unified communications (UC).
Now the company has revealed that the device will be launching on Verizon's 4G network in Spring 2011. Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Verizon (NYSE: VZ) also used the announcement to discuss their business 4G business wireless WAN collaboration which uses Cisco routers. The high speed networking means more companies will be able to adopt innovative UC devices like the Cius.
The Cius tablet runs on Google's (Nasdaq: GOOG) Android operating system. The seven-inch touchscreen device is connected to Cisco's suite of VoIP and Telepresence applications. It supports HD (720p) streaming video calls using Cisco Telepresence whether it's over the WiFi or on the road using a cellular network--makes sense the company is going with 4G wireless service. The Cius will have collaboration applications including Cisco Quad, Cisco Show and Share, WebEx, Presence and IM.
