Comcast reports 'Comcastic' quarter

Tools

Comcast added a "Comcastic" 211,000 Comcast Digital Voice (CDV) customers during the quarter and reported a 9 percent increase in phone revenue to $191 million, reflecting a $37 million increase in CDV revenues. An increasing percentage of its high-speed data customers are leaving DSL as Comcast transitions to marketing CDV. Its competitive triple-play bundle, priced at $99 for the first year, is driving up cable modem sales in areas where it is introducing its CDV. About 75 percent of CDV customers take all three triple-play products.

Comcast is aggressively marketing its triple-play bundle in markets such as Boston, Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Pittsburgh and will launch a more aggressive market plan across the majority of the country within the next three to six months. The CDV service is now marketed to 19 million homes or 45 percent of Comcast's footprint. By the end of 2006, Comcast expects that number to hit 32 million homes or approximately 80 percent of Comcast's footprint. Comcast had 416,000 CDV customers as of the end of the quarter.
