Defense Department certifies Radvision videoconferencing secure
Israel-based Radvision (Nasdaq: RVSN), which has been struggling to put its video business back on track as it works to become an end-to-end videoconferencing provider, has gotten a boost from the U.S. Department of Defense.
The DoD this week issued the company's SCOPIA Elite 5000 Series MCU its Unified Capabilities Approved Product List certification, which could be essential to the company as it continues to push into the rapidly expanding visual communications sector. The UC APL is issued after a product passes a set of security-based information assurance and interoperability tests administered through the Joint Interoperability Test Command, ensuring the solution can be placed on the DoD Network.
The SCOPIA Elite MCU with support for interconnecting HD video conferencing, immersive telepresence and mobile devices, hosts multi-party video conferences. SCOPIA Elite supports full 1080p HD along with Radvision's H.264 SVC implementation and enables full interoperability with standards-based systems, along with high error resilience, which is particularly effective for systems deployed on tactical networks in the field.
The product enables multi-party video conferencing with telepresence systems from Cisco, Logitech/LifeSize, Polycom and Tandberg telepresence, as well as any standards-based video conferencing system. Users participating with traditional video conferencing systems see telepresence participants in a special video layout where multiple video streams are combined into a single panoramic image.
Earlier this month Radvision, which has seen its revenues decrease since Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO)--which was a Radvision reseller and accounted for 40 percent of its sales--acquired Tandberg, said it was taking longer than expected to gain traction in the North American market.
