Dell'Oro: Revenue for SBC, VAS gear surges in Q1
Market research firm Dell'Oro Group said that equipment maker revenue from session border controllers, voice application servers and other emerging voice infrastructure jumped about 30 percent in the first quarter of 2011, compared to the same quarter last year.
Dell'Oro named Acme Packet and Huawei as the market share leaders for SBCs and Broadsoft and Genband as the top firms in the VAS segment.
The growth in SBC and VAS segments is the opposite of what is happening with older softswitches and media gateways, Dell'Oro said, as these segments are declining. Overall, carrier IP telephony revenues were down about 3 percent to $1.8 billion. Meanwhile, the IMS portion of the market is due for a boost with LTE deployments starting to take off. Dell'Oro predicted IMS core spending to approach $1 billion in the next five years.
