Details of May HD Communications Summit emerge

Tools

Details of Jeff Pulver's HD Communications Summit have been posted on his blog. Pulver has embraced bring HD Communications to the masses as his next big quest, calling it a "reboot of the telecommunications industry."

Being held May 21 at New World Stages on Broadway in New York City, Pulver has recruited AudioCodes, Global IP Sound (GIPS), Polycom, Siemens and Snom as sponsors. Presenters will discuss the current state of the art HD communications, HD codecs and HD audio quality (and you thought vanilla VoIP and MOS scores were fun!), and deployment challenges on telco and cable plant. At the end of the day, there will be panels on HD cellular, enterprise deployment and interconnection.

Pulver believes HD communications will provide new opportunities for value-added services, differentiating from low-cost/commodity VoIP and voice traffic; it could also provide a mechanism to halt a decline in landline sales on the theory people would be willing to pay a premium for higher quality sound.
