Digging in to 8x8's Virtual Office Pro 2.0
Hosted UC makes many promises in terms of ease of set up and upgrades. Taking it to another level, 8x8 (Nasdaq: EGHT) put its UC service completely online with Virtual Office Pro 2.0.
The service offers hosted PBX and hosted UC and allows users to access the complete solution on the web. Every time users sign on, the service is the latest release because all the software is updated online as it needs to be, so no need to buy a new version or have technicians come out to update your VoIP service. In the latest release, the web browser allows access to all a company's telephony features as well as call recording and fax services. The browser accesses even the softphone with all the bells and whistles while integrating with social services like Facebook and Twitter.
As 8x8 crams every bit of UC through a user's computer web browser, many companies are probably wondering why they need any more hardware to make phone calls. That is exactly what 8x8 wants them to wonder.
"Hosted is gonna win... When you are a business and you want electricity, you don't build a power station... If you want communications, why do you put a PBX on your site?" said Huw Rees, Vice President of Business and Channel Development at 8x8, in a video with TMC.net.
