Digium adds FMC to Switchvox in latest release

Tools

Open source VoIP juggernaut Digium has announced Switchvox 5.0, the latest version of its IP PBX software platform for small and medium-sized businesses. One of the new features in Switchvox 5.0 is fixed-mobile convergence--a nod to the notion the VoIP mobility is not only becoming a key capability for large enterprises, but also reaching into the SMB sector.

The Switchvox FMC capability comes with support for seamless transferring among up to six phones. The new software release also provides a new graphical user interface for the offering, as well as new application programing interfaces and more detailed call queue capabilities.

The Switchvox platform was developed several years ago by a same-named independent company based on Digium's Asterisk open source PBX. Digium later acquired Switchvox and has turned that platform into a multi-talented unified communications system for a market segment that still holds great potential for VoIP adoption.
