For 2007, SIP trunking up, Asterisk gang down

Tools

It's the end of the year, so magazines are pulling out the "Year Behind/Year Ahead" articles. eWeek's VoIP outlook for 2007 sees a mixed bag. The magazine sees a big future for SIP trunking, as enterprises and VoIP service providers try their best to keep traffic off the PSTN. It also sees a growing awareness of security issues facing VoIP. The predictive news is not as good for the Asterisk ecosystem; the magazine predicts that many players in that community will waver and fade. Similarly, eWeek predicts a bad year for consumer-level PBX, phones, and gateways, which it expects will disappear from the market.
