fring: Android + VoIP means revenue

There just might be something to this mobile VoIP idea especially if it involves video. fring is reporting that they are seeing the benefits of launching their app on the Android platform.

According to a GigaOm article, the mobile VoIP service is seeing an uptake in its fringOut service through the popularity of its Android app. The company offers cheap calling plans so that people can contact others beyond the fring network and also provides video-to-video calling. As the Android eco-system expands and as more phones offer front-facing cameras, more people are being enticed by the fring services. The company claims that they are pulling in $10,000 in revenues daily just from Android phones and are on course to double their revenues in 2011.

fring recently had to drop their connections with Skype users due to a disagreement over licensing, but they seem to be getting along just fine!
