Fring-loaded Nokias spotted in London

Tools

London-based analyst Dean Bubley spotted a crimson red, fring-loaded Nokia E65 for use with Orange wireless service. Nokia handsets were being stripped of VoIP earlier this year by Orange and Vodafone, according to an April 18 article in The Register that cited Orange officials saying future handsets "might or might not have VoIP."

That was before Deputy High Court Judge Robin Knowles ordered T-Mobile earlier this month to play ball with London mobile VoIPer Truphone. Judge Knowles issued the interim ruling "until trial or further" order, setting the stage for a determination of how mobile VoIP providers should be legally defined.

T-Mobile and the other major carriers have been characterized as being anti-VoIP, but with Truphone, the dispute was over termination fees. Truphone wanted more money than T-Mobile was willing to pay it; Judge Knowles told Truphone to take T-Mobile's rate. Truphone filed its case with the court.
