Genband closing deal on Cedar Point, expanding VoIP cable customers

Tools

Cable is quickly becoming the place for consumers to get their home phone service, and that service is all about VoIP. Cedar Point--the provider of the VoIP Safari C3 switch platform for cable--has long been servicing cable companies in this field and Genband has taken notice.

At long last, Genband has signed a definitive agreement to purchase Cedar Point. The deal aims to close later this month, but no dollar amounts have been revealed just yet.

The move adds Tier 1 companies like Comcast, Liberty, Charter and Kabel Deutschland to Genband's customer base. It also sees Genband taking control of Cedar Point's 7.5 million lines globally. The companies plan to bring advanced SIP and multimedia services to the growing cable market through the merger.
