Google Voice for iPhone finally arrives

That took a while. The powers that be finally decided that Google Voice is no longer a threat and have released the voicemail service into the iPhone Apps Store.

Noticeably absent from the app are the new VoIP features that users now think are synonymous with the Google Voice application. Instead we get just the original features of the application. The app integrates with the iPhone dialer and makes a hand-off that means calls still use mobile minutes, but it does allow you to make calls 'from' your Voice number. While you don't get a full VoIP service this time, it does offer cheaper international calls as well as free text messaging to U.S. numbers. The iPhone app also offers the now infamous voice mail transcription feature as well--use at your own risk!
