HelloSoft and NewStep team on fixed-mobile convergence
VoIP tech firm HelloSoft said it and convergence specialist NewStep Networks completed testing fixed-mobile convergence applications on several dual and multi-mode handsets. The tests were successful, and now the two companies are going forward together to develop mobile VoIP handoff over WLAN and cell networks.
HelloSoft's VoIP software was tested over NewStep's CSN platform. The technologies are now available on the HTC Dopod, the QTEK S200 and the Samsung SPH M4500, according to HelloSoft, and Sony Ericsson handsets are on deck.
HelloSoft, founded in 2002, is headquartered in San Jose with a research and development facility in Hyderabad, India. NewStep Networks was spun out of Bell Canada in 2003, and is based in Toronto, Ontario. The news from the two companies signals another step toward consumer adoption of converged phone service.
