How to hide from commoditization

Tools

Don't think you can hide from commoditization in the hardware business, either. With the rise of standardization in high-end VoIP PBXes, hardware's getting commoditized, too. Vendors are starting to support other vendors' phones and gateways, and vendors' IP switches are starting to run on off-the-shelf hardware, too. So if you can't differentiate on pipe and you can't differentiate on hardware, it looks like the only place to carve out a niche is in software. That's tough if you're a carrier; it may mean that the winners will be the ones who can work with the most kinds of software and other applications--which should lead a charge to IMS.
