HP picks first European company to provide its videoconferencing solution

Tools

HP has selected its first European provider of its Visual Collaboration Videoconferencing product. The telepresence company, Videocall, will begin offering the services by the second half of 2011.

"As our first European service provider, Videocall will help businesses realize a more productive, cost-effective and personal way of working," said Rob Scott, HP's vice president and general manager of Visual Collaboration, in the release. "With HP providing the technology behind Videocall's cloud-based video conferencing offerings, clients do not require a network upgrade or other costly hardware investments."

HP's Visual Collaboration Videoconferencing solution uses scalable video coding (SVC) that adapts to network limitations and allows high-definition video conferencing. The system scales depending on whether it's running on a best effort network like a home broadband system or a 3G phone or whether it's running on an enterprise network.

"SVC is a more versatile encoding method than any of its predecessor algorithms," said Andrew Davis, senior analyst of Wainhouse Research, in the release. "SVC's benefits include enhanced video quality, greatly decreased latency, significantly improved network error tolerance and more."
