IBM, Avaya strengthen friendship

Tools

Vendor heavyweights IBM and Avaya have strengthened their partnership to include Avaya security-certified unified communications (UC) applications for enterprises and government customers using IBM technology.

The newly strengthened relationship shows the increasing importance of VoIP as an enterprise service. As part of the deal, IBM will put Avaya technology into its converged communications services and while Avaya certifies that IBM's Internet security systems are complaint with its IP telephony applications.

While Avaya and IBM have worked together in their UC space for a while, the new moves build a "tighter relationship" around the complementary technologies, said Todd Abbott, senior vice president of Avaya's field operations division.
