IMS Plugfest finds the holes that need fixing

There's nothing like a dose of reality to bring promises down to earth, and that's pretty much what the first IMS Plugfest was like. Ten core network vendors got together a couple of weeks ago at the University of New Hampshire to see if their products really could be woven together into a series of nine IMS scenarios of increasing complexity. About two-thirds of the five-day event was spent getting the equipment to work together. The good news is that the vendors learned what they have to work on to clarify the IMS standard and make interoperability as simple as the promise. They'll do it again in May--and this time, they'll add video to the mix.
