Israeli VoIP provider looks to Africa for growth opportunities
While most Israeli tech companies look to the United States and its vast market of technophiles as a natural fit for its products, VoIP provider Tikal Networks is taking a different tack.
The company, which sells most of its enterprise-VoIP systems and call centers to businesses in Israel, is looking toward Africa.
"Africa is Virgin land," Tikal CEO Alexander Argov told Reuters. "They are adapting fast to new technologies and that is why we want to be there."
Argov said the company's biggest client are Israel's security forces, which use the service because calls are encrypted.
But, he said, "You need to go abroad, especially in our market. What we are selling in Africa in dollars is what we are selling in Israel in shekels."
The company is small, with only some $2 million in annual revenues. Argov expects that to grow to $5 million as demand for VoIP services continue to grow.
