IT EXPO themes reveal future of IP Comm

Tools

Your FierceVoIP editor arrived in muggy Miami last night, took in the scene over some tasty kebabs and then wiled away the midnight hours writing up stories on some exciting embargoed press releases to make sure this was fresh in your inbox before the show. After this issue goes out I'll be running over to the conference take in the keynotes of Skype, Verizon and Digium, and spending the rest of the day chatting with some great companies about the future of IP Communications.

As you can see from today's issue there are a few things that seem to stick out when one starts thinking about our industry's future. On the Voice side of the house, HD Voice seems to be picking up steam with countless announcements last week of vendors launching HD support and now we are making moves to make sure our networks are up to snuff to support it. Going along with the theme of 'so high quality it's like being there' that HD Voice promises, we have video. Video communication is becoming all the rage with numerous companies launching consumer plays to get video calling on home TVs while the enterprise is beginning to see video communication as a major part of the UC bundle both in the big teleconference room way as well as the personal peer-to-peer communication of everyday life.

Look for more new developments and partnerships over the next couple of days and notice that as companies move more and more into the IP realm of communication and away from legacy, we are seeing the demand for exciting 'being-there' communication that requires IP to succeed. See you on the show floor! -Mike
