LightSquared lands VoIP player netTalk for resale
Controversial mobile network player LightSquared faces a deadline this week to show results of interference testing between its planned hybrid LTE-satellite network and existing GPS services, but, in the face of that deadline, the company continues to sign on partners. This week, it added VoIP carrer netTalk as a reseller for its planned services.
In an interview with Fierce's Phil Goldstein, netTalk president Anastasios "Takis" Kyriakides said that netTalk is not concerned about the GPS interference issue because LightSquared already has prosposed a remedy. "This plan relies on the lower 10MHz band which, according to Lightsquared, testing shows is substantially free of interference," he said. Some have disputed LightSquared's proposed solution, saying it does not completely solve the problem.
Kyriakides said netTalk will resell both voice and data services over LightSquared's network and meanwhile continues to develop new products of its own, including netTalk TV and other services.
