Low cost not enough for business VoIP users

Tools

Sometimes it helps to state the obvious. An increasing number of commercial users want more from VoIP than just cheap calls, says IP Centrex vendor 8el.

This doesn't necessarily fly in the face of conventional wisdom that says businesses sign up for VoIP because it costs less than traditional telco, but it does add credence to the growing belief that VoIP is maturing and a mature technology uses features as a differentiator. Such features, 8el said, include enhanced centralized unified messaging and a temporary voice mail greeting with a configurable number.

Even 8el, though, concedes voice quality still heads the business user wish list and that international calls and business conferences could be "vastly" improved. Doing that, not coincidentally, could mean adding yet another feature to VoIP service: high definition.
