Managed video services heat up at LifeSize

It used to be that if a business wanted to get into teleconferencing it meant they needed to buy a room full of technology and devote a conference room to using it. With the advent of managed services, the barriers to video communications are coming down.

LifeSize Communications whose bread and butter is video communications sees a real opportunity in managed services. In an interview with Light Reading, Michael Helmbrecht, vice president of product marketing for LifeSize, says that service providers offering managed services is helping increase the demand for high-quality videoconferencing technology for the enterprise.

Helmbrecht noted in the article that his company already partners with Glowpoint and BT Group who have made LifeSize video technology part of their managed offerings. The VP hopes to add more companies to the list soon. The managed service offering means LifeSize is often providing leased devices to help cut down on the CAPEX associated with these types of upgrades.

LifeSize also has new streaming HD video communications tool called Video Center which it hopes to use to infiltrate distance learning classrooms and corporate training facilities. Two places that might also benefit from a hosted/managed services type deal.
