Metrics: Vonage still #1, Comcast surges

Tools

New VoIP subscriber metrics are out, and the big surprise is how little surprising there is about the numbers. Overall, there are 153 percent more U.S. VoIP subscribers by the end of the second quarter of 2006 than there were a year before--at least, for pay service. But where Time Warner, at 1.6 million users had been catching up to Vonage's 1.8 million subscribers, the companies each added around 240,000 lines in the quarter. (Looks like Vonage has been putting its IPO money into marketing.) TeleGeography's figures show that Number 3 Cablevision added about 120,000 subscribers to just shy of 1 million, but Comcast added 305,000 customers in just one quarter, to 721,000.
