Mini Skype outage
After August's big Skype outage news of any outage by the VoIP giant grabs headlines. According to Tom Keating at TMC.com last week, there was another outage that affected almost all Skype phones--only the Skype software that runs on a PC/Mac/Linux were not affected.
The outage was short and Skype played down the problem: "Users of some Skype Certified devices experienced login problems on Sunday when a server-hosting location experienced network connection difficulties. As a result, some services became temporarily unavailable. This has since been rectified. The scale of the problem was minor and we've taken appropriate precautions to avoid it happening again."
Maybe. VoIP as a brand continues to struggle because of quality issues--which partly explains why VoIP may be deployed in 80 percent of businesses in the U.S. but is only totally relied upon in 8 percent of firms. High visibility problems delay the transition and, in turn, limit the features that become available when both users are running IP voice platforms.
