Mobile VoIP poised for growth with help of social networks

Tools

According InStat's latest report, mobile VoIP will be dominating our future socializing more than 'pokes' and retweets. Three years from now the ranks of mobile VoIP users will swell to 139 million users.

The new reports states that mobile VoIP has been growing in popularity over the last few years, but to hit this 2014 milestone, the services are getting some help. Mobile VoIP applications are quickly becoming integrated peices of social networking services and with these pairings comes the massive user base already involved in those sites. As mobile VoIP becomes a main form of communication for social network users, the growth rate of mobile VoIP usage will increase dramatically. The report also stated that mobile VoIP spending will rise to $6 million dollars by 2015.

While it is always great to hear projections for future growth, one might see these numbers as a bit conservative. Skype, a mainly consumer facing service, has hit over 25 million concurrent users recently and has been working on merging some of its services with Facebook. Facebook has over 600 million active users and countless versions of integrated mobile apps. And let's not forget the mobile phones themselves. Almost any Android phone now can get a mobile VoIP app to use, and back in December Google claimed 300,000 Android phones were being activated daily! Mobile VoIP usage could really soar beyond these projections at any moment.
