More on the BT, Cisco Hosted UC deal
Last week Verizon teamed with Cisco to offer Unified Communication and Collaboration (UCC) over the cloud. Also in the headlines was British Telecom's plans to offer its hosted IP communications in the U.S. BT would also be taking advantage of Cisco's technology to make its services available using Cisco Hosted Unified Communications Services (HUCS) platform in addition to BT's Onevoice UCC portfolio.
The offering would bring BT's cloud-based UC system to U.S. businesses to help reduce capital expenditure, enhance communication and introduce productivity enhancing tools. The service allows businesses to bring converged voice, mobile and data services to every desktop in their organization, using BT and Cisco's cloud computing-based technologies.
"We are delighted BT is expanding its hosted service into new global markets. We share the same vision of providing customers with flexible deployment models that can ultimately help customers reduce costs while enhancing communications across the enterprise," Barry O'Sullivan, senior vice president, Voice Technology Group, Cisco, said in a release.
Verizon is beginning field trials of its hosted UCC solution in Las Vegas, offering the Cisco HUCS to a limited number of companies. The trial participants include a multinational auto manufacturer, a women's fashion retailer and a state government agency. Each of these trial users will get to use Verizon Business solutions and Cisco UC&C tools from the cloud.
