NC CLEC North State buys cloud specialist DataChambers

Tools

North State Communications today said it's entered into an agreement to purchase IT and managed services provider DataChambers. Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

The two North Carolina-based companies dovetail nicely, with North State providing Internet, voice, wireless, data and advanced television services to businesses and consumers in the Piedmond Triad region, and DataChambers specializing in electronic data storage, 24x7 managed information technology solutions and secure co-location services for mission-critical information technology infrastructure.

"The acquisition advances our strategy to diversify our business and revenue mix and will strengthen North State's efforts in becoming the preferred provider of business communications and data solutions across the Triad and beyond," said Hayden McKenzie, Chairman and CEO of North State. "DataChambers operates approximately 120,000 square feet of data center and disaster recovery space, and offers electronic data storage and managed IT services that will benefit both existing and new customers."

North State is following a path similar to another CLEC, Warwick Valley Telephone, which bought Alteva earlier this year.

That deal, like North State's, helped to diversify WVT's business and dropped it square into a hot growth sector, cloud computing.
