NetTalk launches Wi-Fi VoIP device, service at Target stores

VoIP provider netTalk, which has been aggressively expanding the shelf presence of its VoIP phone, netTalk Duo, at a number of U.S. stores, said it plans to roll out netTalk Duo Wi-Fi in early April.

The Wi-Fi compatible device will be available at Target stores across the U.S. starting in April, netTalk said, adding that it will roll out at other retailers soon.

The company just started offering telephone number porting last month, which it said was its customer's No. 1 requested service. Next most wanted, said CEO Takis Kyriakides, was a device and service that is fully Wi-Fi compatible.

"We are the first in the world to do so; this is our holy grail," Kyriakides claimed.

He said the new device will be capable of connecting over any Wi-Fi service.

The netTalk Duo WiFi has a suggested retail price of $64.95. The phone enables free nationwide calls to any phone in Canada and the U.S. from anywhere in the world, as well as low-cost, flat-rate international calling plans. The device plugs directly into a modem or a computer.
