New term of the day: VoIPhreaking

Tools

Because you don't have enough to worry about, here's something else: your VoIP service interfaces with the PSTN at some point or other, right? What do you think of the prospect of some cracker using holes in VoIP to get privileged access to the PSTN and having some "fun"? The coinage is VoIPhreaking--"phreaking," of course, being the old-school term for hacking the phone network. The action item here isn't anything new: secure your networks--all of them. The telcos long ago hardened their networks against these guys, but every new technology and access point offers new opportunity for mischief, even (especially) from low-level script kiddies and social engineers. The article's from Malaysia, but the Net goes everywhere, you know. Which is kind of the problem, right?
