New white-label softphone serves ads

Tools

Carriers are being offered a skinable VoIP softphone service tightly integrated with a strong middleware solution that enables advertising through the phone client. The Basis AudioNet softphone offers a branded service with an industrial set of features based on Basis Multi-Client Communications Suite.

Most softphones are not skinable, making them less attractive to carriers seeking to promote their services through a white-label offering. The platform also offers carriers the ability to serve advertising as an alternative revenue stream. Basis was originally an advertising agency back in the late-1960s and has since morphed into a communications software vendor.

Features include video conferencing, advertising server integration, SMS, chat, and a suite of IP telephony and messaging applications. Because the service is built on the MCCS platform it also offers presence functionality, a feature not usually available in most softphones. Basis is based in Germany, but has an office in Philadelphia.
