Nextiva and 8x8 (Nasdaq: EGHT) attained the top two positions in the list of top five business VoIP providers compiled by GetVoIP.com, a VoIP provider guide website.

GetVoIP.com evaluated business VoIP providers based on performance over the past year, features, pricing, future outlook and developments, customer reviews and other factors.

Nextiva took the top position based on pricing, which ranges from $19.95 to $34.95 per month per line, and improvements to its Nextiva Anywhere, NextOS and call center communications platform and other factors. "The trend of excellence is slated to continue into 2013, as their product development and customer service represent the best in the business," commented GetVoIP.com.

8x8 came in second due to an "impressive" list of 85 inventions and patents, strong financials and all inclusive pricing. The firm charges around $29.99 per month per line for an "abundance of features," according to GetVoIP.com. The VoIP provider offers "big business capabilities to the small-to-medium business sector," it added. 8x8's hosted VoIP offering provides customers with customer relationship management  (CRM) and hosted call-center services along with improvements to their tablet and smartphone offerings by leveraging PBX software in Virtual Office Mobile.

Coming in at number three was Vocalocity based on its high level of performance and customization for customers. Pricing for VoIP service ranges from $19.99 to $39.99 per month per extension. Last year, Vocalocity revamped its corporate website, support site and administrative portal to provide ease of use for customers. The firm added large enterprise integration to Vocalocity Desktop, including QuickBooks, Method CRM, Sugar CRM, Google Contacts, MS Dynamics CRM and Web Launcher. This year, it plans to roll out its Vocalocity Desktop 2.0.

Fourth place was taken by Ringcentral, which beefed up its business phone expertise last year through appointments to its board of directors. Pricing ranges from $19.99 to $34.99 per month per line. The company made a number of improvements last year, including internal changes designed to improve employee productivity. In addition, the company improved the interface designed for Ringcentral Business SMS, which will be rolled out this year.

Finally, Fonality was named to the fifth position because of its cloud-based VoIP communications and contact center capabilities as well as its security interface with iOS and Android platforms. Fonality's pricing averages about $29.99 per month per extension. "Since releasing their Web Client application, they've set themselves apart as offering one of the best and advanced tools in business communications, with a new, web-based build on the way," commented GetVoIP.com. The firm is expected to roll out the final two installments of its Fonality 5 innovation series this year.
